ORS 166.295 requires CHL holders wishing to renew their CHL, to do so in person. There are very few exemptions under this law. Renewals cannot be done via US Mail.
In order to complete the requirements, you must apply in person to the Sheriff's Office. For in-county applicants, hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm.
Non-resident applicants must call in advance for an appointment to process their Oregon CHL through Grant County.
For out of county applicants (WA, CA, ID, NV), hours are Wednesday 8:00am to 3:00pm.
We do have a volunteer Civil Deputy that lives in the Portland area and he is willing to take applications, but he does this on an entirely voluntary capacity.
He will make every effort to accommodate applicants if they can make their applications at a place he is going to be for other reasons. But one-on-one personal service cannot be accommodated.
